Why this work matters to us
This work began with a single request.
In 2022, a mother reached out to me.
Spencer, her son, was in the final stages of encephalitis. His brain had been deteriorating for fifteen years. He was in his twenties.
She asked me if I could create something that would honor his life. Something they could show at his funeral and something they could show to future nieces and nephews who would never meet him.
I said yes even though I didn’t know what I was doing. I had never worked on a project like this. But I certainly wasn’t going to say no to this mom.
What happened during that project woke me up.
I saw what it meant to a family to have their son’s voice, his story, and his presence preserved not as a memorial, but as a gift they could hold onto.
That’s when it snapped: this is the work that matters.
Midwest Legacy Films was born a few months later, focused on helping families capture what can’t be replaced.
Here's the legacy film that changed everything.
In 2022, I created this legacy film for a young man in his final stage of life. With his family’s permission, I share it here as a demonstration of how this impacts families and as a celebration of Spencer’s life.
How We Approach Legacy
Legacy is ultimately about how your life has impacted someone’s else.
Legacy is like a bridge between generations.
On one side: the person who lived the life, their struggles, their wisdom, the moments that shaped who they became.
On the other side: children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren who will wonder where they came from and what lessons matter most.
We help families build that bridge while there’s still time so the stories, the voice, and the presence of someone irreplaceable can reach the people who need it most.
Who We Are
My name is Luke. I started working with families in 2022 after creating Spencer’s film (referenced and shown above). This was when Midwest Legacy Films was formed.
Before that, I was working as a freelancer inside the video production world. Personally, I’d never done anything that resonated so deeply with people. I could sense the profound level of meaning and significance this kind of work carried. It drew me in.
One of the realities that I noticed rather quickly was this: when people can connect and trust the person sitting in front of them asking questions, they respond like they were talking to their friend. This is where the best interviews I’ve been apart have taken place.
